The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
