AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 Now had he not been of those that glorify God, 143 He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised. 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand or more people. 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 Now, ask them, has your Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 "Allah has begotten children"? but they are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is amiss with you and your judgment? 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 But as for you, and that you serve, 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 except for he who shall roast in Hell. 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks, 165 And we are those who sing hallelujas to Him." 166 AND, INDEED, they [who deny the truth] have always been wont to say, 167 If we had the account of earlier people with us, 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know. 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while, 174 and watch them. They, too, will watch. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned. 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 and see; and they too shall soon see. 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
