Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
