Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
