The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 And the family in which he was. 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 except those that pray, 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
