Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 in which you are now living 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
