The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
