۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
