The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near which is Paradise. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
