The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
