The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness those who stand arrayed in rows, 1 and restraining [from evil] by a call to restraint, 2 By those (angels) who bring the Book and the Quran from Allah to mankind [Tafsir Ibn Kathir]. 3 Lo! thy Lord is surely One; 4 Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and all that is between them, and Lord of every point of the sun's risings. (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah). 5 Verily! We have adorned the near heaven with the stars (for beauty). 6 And have placed therein a guard against any satan froward. 7 They cannot listen to the higher group (angels) for they are pelted from every side. 8 and driven away to suffer the necessary torment. 9 Except him who snatches off but once, then there follows him a brightly shining flame. 10 Then ask them (O Muhammad): Are they stronger as a creation, or those (others) whom we have created? Lo! We created them of plastic clay. 11 But you wonder, while they mock, 12 and, when reminded, do not remember 13 and if they see any Sign, they laugh it away 14 and say: "This is clearly nothing but [a mortal's] spellbinding eloquence! 15 What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 16 Will our forefathers also be brought to life again?" 17 Say thou: "Yea, and ye shall then be humiliated (on account of your evil)." 18 There will only be a single jerk, and they will gape, 19 And say: Ah, woe for us! This is the Day of Judgment. 20 This is the Day of Separation, which ye used to deny. 21
