The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 In gardens and springs. 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
