He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
