The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
