The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
