Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Join My worshipers and 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
