A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
