The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the heavens and that which comes in the night! 1 And what will make you know what the comer by night is? 2 The star of piercing brightness; 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 LET MAN, then, observe out of what he has been created: 5 He is created from a drop emitted- 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able. 8 upon the day when the secrets are tried, 9 (Man) will have no power, and no helper. 10 By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again. 11 by the earth cracking open with new growth. 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 it is no merriment. 14 Indeed the disbelievers carry out their evil schemes. 15 But I too am devising a plan. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
