Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WE HAVE REVEALED this Surah and made it obligatory as We have sent down clear injunctions in it that you may be warned. 1 The adulterer and the adulteress, scourge ye each one of them (with) a hundred stripes. And let not pity for the twain withhold you from obedience to Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a party of believers witness their punishment. 2 The adulterer can marry no one but an adulteress or his partner (in the act), and the adulteress cannot marry any but an adulterer or her partner (in the act). This is forbidden the believers, 3 Those who accuse chaste women, and cannot produce four witnesses, you shall lash them with eighty lashes. And never accept their testimony, for they are evildoers, 4 except those who repent and reform themselves; Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. 5 And those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves, let them testify by swearing by Allah four times that he is of the truthful, 6 Then the fifth time he shall declare that Allah's curse be upon him if he be false (in his charge). 7 And the punishment shall be averted from the woman if she bears the testimony four times by the name of Allah, that the man is a liar. 8 And the fifth (oath) should be that she solemnly invokes the wrath of Allah on herself if (her accuser) is telling the truth. 9 Were it not for God's grace and His mercy upon you, [you would have come to grief] and God is wise, acceptor of repentance. 10
