The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 and the Book inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and the sea that is full 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
