۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said to the fire, "Be cool and peaceful (with Abraham)". 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
