The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
