And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off. 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us), 143 He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 and caused a gourd tree to grow over him, 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (people) or even more. 147 And they came to believe; so We allowed them to enjoy the good things of life for an age. 148 Therefore ask them (O dear Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him), whether the daughters are for your Lord and the sons for them! 149 or is it that We have created the angels female, and they [who believe them to be divine] have witnessed [that act of creation]? 150 Is it not that they say, from their own invention, 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What is amiss with you and your judgment? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 Purity is to Allah from the matters they fabricate. 159 all of them except the chosen servants of Allah. 160 But as for you, and that you serve, 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 "There is not one of us who does not have his appointed place," (declare the angels.) 164 we are those who stand ranged in ranks. 165 "And we are verily those who declare (Allah's) glory!" 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 Had we a reminder from those of yore, 168 We would have been the chosen creatures of God." 169 But they disbelieve in it (the Koran), but soon they shall know! 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 That they would be helped, 172 and Our armies shall be the victors. 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 Withdraw from them awhile 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 And peace is upon the Noble Messengers. 181 And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. 182
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
