The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 In gardens and springs. 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord - only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
