Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
