a good many of olden times, 39 and a good many of later times. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten - 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
