He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
