The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 And the lofty roof. 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
