The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 About the great tidings! 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
