These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and a good many of later times. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
