The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
