The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 Pollution shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he thought; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
