The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 About which they have been differing? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 The night a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
