Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 cushions ranged, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
