The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
