The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. 25
