And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 "Verily! They are enemies to me, save the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
