The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 And what could make thee conceive what it is, that steep uphill road? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
