The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
