Messengers! Eat of that which is good and do good deeds; I have knowledge of the things you do. 51 And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me." 52 But the people divided their religion among them into sects - each faction, in what it has, rejoicing. 53 So leave them in their bewilderment for a while. 54 Deem they that in the wealth and sons wherewith We enlarge them. 55 We provide them with the means of competing with each other in virtuous deeds, but they do not realize this. 56 Lo! those who go in awe for fear of their Lord. 57 And those who in the signs of their Lord do believe. 58 who associate none with their Lord, 59 who give, whatever they give in charity, with their hearts trembling at the thought that they are destined to return to their Lord; 60 to God, these are the ones who really compete with each other in virtuous deeds and are the foremost ones in the task. 61 And We do not burden any soul beyond its capacity, and with Us is a Book* that speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged. (* The preserved tablet or the record of one’s deeds.) 62 Nay, their hearts are in overwhelming ignorance with respect to it and they have besides this other deeds which they do. 63 But when We will strike with torment those (unbelievers) who are rich, they will start to cry for help. 64 'Groan not today; surely you shall not be helped from Us. 65 My signs were recited to you, but upon your heels you withdrew, 66 in arrogance, as if you were abandoning a story-teller. 67 Have they not pondered the matter, or did that come to them, which did not come to their forefathers? 68 Or did they not know their Messenger, so they are toward him disacknowledging? 69 Or do they say, "In him is madness?" Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of them, to the truth, are averse. 70 And had the Truth followed their desires, then indeed the heavens and the earth and all those who are in them would be destroyed; in fact We brought to them a thing in which lay their repute, so they are turned away from their own repute. 71 Or are you asking them for any reward? But the reward of your Lord is the best, for He is the Best of Providers, 72 But verily thou callest them to the Straight Way; 73 and surely they that believe not in the world to come are deviating from the path. 74 ۞ Even if We showed them mercy and relieved them of their afflictions, they would still persist in their transgression, wandering blindly. 75 We inflicted Punishment on them, but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor do they submissively entreat (Him)!- 76 So that when at last We open up the gate of severe punishment on them they will be overwhelmed with despair. 77
