A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Meem, Sad. 1 This Book has been sent down to you, let there be no heaviness in your heart about it, so that you may warn by means of it and it is a reminder to the believers. 2 Follow (O men!) the revelation given unto you from your Lord, and follow not, as friends or protectors, other than Him. Little it is ye remember of admonition. 3 And a great number of towns (their population) We destroyed (for their crimes). Our torment came upon them (suddenly) by night or while they were sleeping for their afternoon rest. 4 And when Our scourge fell upon them their only cry was: 'We are indeed transgressors.' 5 So We shall question those unto whom a Message was sent, and We shall question the Envoys, 6 Then most certainly We will relate to them with knowledge, and We were not absent. 7 And the measuring out on that day will be just; then as for him whose measure (of good deeds) is heavy, those are they who shall be successful; 8 Those whose scale will be light, will be their souls in perdition, for that they wrongfully treated Our signs. 9 We established you in the earth and made for you a livelihood but little is it that you give thanks. 10
