The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ Thus was the truth established, and their doings proved in vain. 118 Thus they were overcome and made to look abject. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
