The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 We put it into Moses's mind by inspiration: "Throw (now) thy rod": and behold! it swallows up straight away all the falsehoods which they fake! 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 Pharaoh said: 'What! Do you believe before you have my permission? Surely this is a plot you have contrived to drive out the rulers from the capital. So you shall see, 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
