The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ They ask thee concerning the spoils of war. Say thou: the spoils of war are Allah's and the apostle's. So fear Allah, and set right the matter among you, and obey Allah and His apostle if ye are believers. 1 The believers are only those whose hearts thrill with fear when Allah is mentioned, and when His revelations are rehearsed unto them they increase their faith, and who trust in their Lord. 2 Who establish regular prayers and spend (freely) out of the gifts We have given them for sustenance: 3 those in truth are the believers; they have degrees with their Lord, and forgiveness, and generous provision. 4 As thy Lord brought thee forth from thy house with the truth, and a part of the believers were averse to it, 5 Arguing with you concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven toward death while they were looking on. 6 And when Allah promised you one of the two parties that it shall be yours and you loved that the one not armed should he yours and Allah desired to manifest the truth of what was true by His words and to cut off the root of the unbelievers. 7 In order that he might justify the truth and falsify the false even though the guilty ones were averse. 8 When ye sought help of your Lord and He answered you (saying): I will help you with a thousand of the angels, rank on rank. 9 He gave you the good news only to reassure your hearts, for victory comes from God alone, and certainly God is all-mighty and all-wise. 10
