Joseph (Yousuf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
A. L. R. These are the symbols (or Verses) of the perspicuous Book. 1 Verily, We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran in order that you may understand. 2 We recount to you the best of narratives in revealing this Quran to you, even though you were unaware of it before it came. 3 When Joseph told his father, "My father, I saw eleven stars, and the sun and moon: I saw them prostrate themselves before me," 4 He said: O my son! do not relate your vision to your brothers, lest they devise a plan against you; surely the Shaitan is an open enemy to man. 5 "Thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of dreams (and other things) and perfect His Favour on you and on the offspring of Ya'qub (Jacob), as He perfected it on your fathers, Ibrahim (Abraham) and Ishaque (Isaac) aforetime! Verily, your Lord is All-Knowing, All-Wise." 6
