The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the Book and the glorious Quran. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 No nation can outstrip its term, nor do they put it back. 5 They say: "O you to whom the Admonition has been revealed, you are surely crazed. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 And indeed We sent Noble Messengers before you, to the former nations. 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They would not believe in it (the Quran), and already the example of (Allah's punishment of) the ancients (who disbelieved) has gone forth. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
