The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15
