The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 And whenever a Messenger came to them, they never failed to mock him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
