The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
