The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No group may advance its appointed promise nor postpone it. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 We do not send angels except with the truth. Then they shall have no respite. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 They do not believe in it, and indeed the example of the former people has already passed. 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
